2. The necropolis at Sakkara
id dominated by the oldest pyramid in the world, the so-called step-pyramid,
erected about 2650 B.C. for a king whose name was Nejerikhet (Djoser).
It was the life work by the legendary Imhotep, later worshipped as a saint
for thousands of years. The western side of the pyramid borders an endless
desert. Archaeologists had forgotten about that part of the graveyard.
